1 Title

These rules are the Licensed Building Practitioners Amendment Rules 2024. 

2 Commencement

These rules come into force on 9 September 2024. 

3 Principal rules amended

These rules amend the Licensed Building Practitioners Rules 2007. 

4 Rule 14 amended (Registrar must contact licensed building practitioner annually)

In rule 14(1), replace "at least 30 working days" with "20 working days". 

5 Schedule 2 amended (Recognised qualifications)

Replace Schedule 2 with:

Explanatory note

These rules, made under the Building Act 2004 by Hon Chris Penk, Minister for Building and Construction, come into force on 9 September 2024 and amend the Licensed Building Practitioners Rules 2007 (the 2007 Rules).

They were approved by the Building Practitioners Board on 12 August 2024, in accordance with section 356 of the Building Act 2004. The amendments change the timeframe set out in rule 14 of the 2007 Rules for when the Registrar must contact a practitioner for renewal of their licence, to align this timeframe to the one which a practitioner must complete the renewal process.

The amendments also add recognised qualifications (as well as removing one) to the list in Schedule 2 of the 2007 Rules, as well as adding qualification codes, and denoting which qualifications are historic. The recognised qualifications are those that reduce information and evidence that an applicant for licensing must provide and simplify assessments of whether the applicant meets the minimum standard of competence.
