Welcome to the final Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) newsletter for 2024.

I want to acknowledge the work of the team that supports the LBP scheme. This has been another busy year.

The statutory non-working days for us are between 19 December 2024 to 11 January 2025. If you apply during this time, we will treat it as being received on 11 January 2025 and get back to you as soon as we can.

In this newsletter you will find information about 2 potential legislative changes which are being consulted on or have already been consulted. These might impact the work you do as an LBP, so have a read and submit any feedback you have.

Complaints not upheld

The Building Practitioners Board considers complaints against LBPs. To assist the Board, the Registrar of LBPs delegates the task to the Investigations Team within Occupational Regulation, MBIE. The Registrar will provide a report to the Board for consideration. If the Board decide to hold a hearing and an LBP has breached a ground for discipline, the complaint is upheld and the Board will then decide on an appropriate penalty.

Exploring options for self-certification of building work

The Minister for Building and Construction, Hon Chris Penk, has announced a proposal for further reform of the building and construction sector. The Government will look at developing a new opt-in self-certification scheme for trusted building professionals and accredited businesses carrying out low risk building work.
